A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Mrs Nnenna Obewu-Onwuka, has declared support for the re-election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in 2027, describing his representation as impactful and people-oriented.
Obewu-Onwuka, President of Agunwanyi Odo Foundation and an indigene of Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area, made the declaration in a statement congratulating Kalu on the successful completion of his ward-to-ward tour of Ohafia.
She said the reception accorded the former governor during his visit to Abiriba reflected the people’s appreciation of his contributions to infrastructure, empowerment and grassroots representation.
According to her, residents turned out in large numbers during his engagements across Abiriba, including visits to the palace of the Enachioken of Abiriba, Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu IV, and Eze Nwami, Chief Mrs Ure Okocha K. Uba.
“Abiriba stood still. From the palace of His Royal Majesty, Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu IV, Enachioken of Abiriba, and Eze Nwami, Chief Mrs Ure Okocha K. Uba, to all our wards, our people came out en masse to receive a beloved son of Abiriba,” she said.
Obewu-Onwuka commended Kalu for what she described as quality representation since his election to the Senate in 2019, citing his efforts to attract infrastructure projects and empowerment programmes across Abia North Senatorial District.
She listed road projects, including the Abiriba ring roads and rural roads in Abia Ohafia, Akanu, Okamu, Ohafor, Amangwu and Isiugwu, saying they had improved accessibility and boosted economic activities in rural communities.
“Our people said it themselves: He is the only lawmaker whose impact we have felt,” she said.
The APC chieftain also praised Kalu’s empowerment initiatives, including business grants, agricultural support, distribution of educational materials and skills acquisition programmes for women and youths.
She said the initiatives had created economic opportunities and supported households across the district.
Obewu-Onwuka added that Kalu’s direct engagement with constituents had strengthened his relationship with the people, noting that the ward-to-ward tour gave residents the opportunity to assess his performance and make demands.
“He walks our streets, listens to our mothers, sits with our traditional rulers and gives account of his stewardship,” she said.
She recalled his engagement with residents at Ugwu Nchara, where he pledged to commence construction of the Ogo Ubi farm road by June 2027, and promised to facilitate additional schools, healthcare facilities and rural roads if re-elected.
According to her, the commitments strengthened her confidence in his leadership and reinforced her decision to support his return to the National Assembly.
“As President of Agunwanyi Odo Foundation, I reiterate my unflinching support for his re-election. Abia North has seen effective representation. We will consolidate the gains,” she said.
“Abia North is in safe hands,” she added.
