Former Senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has said the 2027 presidential race should feature President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Peter Obi, and other southern contenders.

This is as he emphasised that northern candidates like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should allow the South to complete its eight-year tenure before seeking the presidency.

In a post shared on his X page, he remarked that while rotational presidency between the North and South isn’t constitutional, it is fair.

He listed candidates such as Tinubu, Peter Obi, Sowore, Makinde, Adebayo, Duke, and others from the South as the expected contenders, asserting that the South’s eight-year term should be honoured. Sani added.

“It’s not constitutional, but it’s equitable. We should not bury our heads in the sand and deny the realities and complexities of our history.”

He further argued that after the South’s eight years, the North should have an undeniable claim to the presidency in 2031.

Sani warned that those opposing the rotation principle in 2027 should understand that it will not be respected in 2031.
