The Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has said the council’s visits to traditional rulers across Northern Nigeria were not intended to seek political endorsements but to solicit prayers, blessings and wise counsel ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yari stated this on Monday when he led a high-powered delegation of national political leaders on a royal consultation tour of four prominent traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria.

The delegation visited the Emir of Gwandu, the Emir of Katsina, the Emir of Daura and the Emir of Zaria as part of efforts to engage traditional institutions and other stakeholders ahead of President Bola Tinubu‘s re-election campaign.

According to a statement issued by the council, the delegation departed from the private wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and received warm welcomes at the four palaces.

Speaking during the visits, Yari explained that the engagement was driven by the council’s recognition of the important role traditional rulers play in promoting peace, unity and stability in the country.

He said the council was not seeking political endorsements from the royal fathers but their prayers, blessings and guidance as the country prepares for another electoral cycle.

The council said the visits formed part of a broader nationwide consultation with traditional and political leaders to build consensus and strengthen engagement with stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It added that the consultations would continue as the council prepares for key campaign activities leading up to January 16, 2027, which it described as a significant date in the electoral calendar.

The PCC reaffirmed its respect for Nigeria’s traditional institutions, describing them as important partners in promoting peace, unity and stability.

The council also pledged to sustain consultations with relevant stakeholders as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
