On Saturday, the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, called on northerners to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying it would reward the President for his consistent backing of politicians from the region.
Shettima made this plea while speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign launch in Kaduna State.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President said President Tinubu had supported northern politicians, including former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, re-electing Tinubu would allow the region to reciprocate the support he had shown northerners over the years.
Shettima added that he and other politicians from the region were asking northerners and Nigerians to renew the administration’s mandate “From top to bottom.”

Shettima said Tinubu had provided former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with a platform to contest the presidency in 2007 after he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that Tinubu also supported National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu when he ran for President under the APC.
He described Tinubu’s efforts to secure support for Buhari’s presidential campaigns in 2015 and 2019, saying he personally sought the backing of Nigerians to help Buhari win.
Defending the Tinubu administration, Shettima said it had delivered on promises across key sectors.
He said a vote for Tinubu in 2027 would be a mark of honour and urged northerners to have faith in a president who had stood firmly by the region.
Among the administration’s achievements in Kaduna State, he cited the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, the transition to the Federal University of Education in Zaria, a state vocational institute in Rigachikun and other parts of the state, and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan.
Shettima also said progress had been made on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, the Kano-Maradi railway, the Lagos-Kano rail corridor and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road, among other projects in northern Nigeria.
He said work was advancing on the Sokoto-Badagry highway, which he said would create opportunities for agricultural production, and added that more projects would come to the region if Tinubu were re-elected in 2027.
