The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kano governorship candidate, Alhaji Ibrahim ElAmin Little, has, after unveiling his deputy governorship candidate, Ibrahim Bari, promised to transform Kano from a beggars’ state into a city of multimillionaires.
“I unveiled a 36-year-old youth as my deputy to show that my mission is to make youths the bedrock of society and make them feel a sense of belonging.”
Speaking at the NUJ Press Centre, Kano, on Sunday, Ibrahim ElAmin Little hinted that there was no basis for the state to remain a beggars’ state while billions of naira were wasted on unnecessary road construction.
“My mission is to transform Kano into a productive state, not a consumer place where we always wait for African countries and other places to produce before we consume.”
He said, unfortunately, that as of today, Kano remains the most drug-addicted state in the country. He assured that with him as governor, he would reset the state to a place where everyone could move freely without fear of being attacked by drug peddlers.
He said it was sad to know that Kano, which is tagged as one of the most politically motivated states, was, however, having two emirs sitting side by side, adding, “This is unbelievable.”
“I’m going to end this shameless position of having two emirs in Kano and correct the wrongs.”
“Similarly, the idea of giving governors and their deputies, who are living in offices, huge allowances, including big cars and houses, would come to an end. I will surely tackle it.”
Little promised to mentor young people to take over government, provide enough opportunities for the young to ensure that they are given the rightful chance, encourage innovation in technical skills and create clusters for small businesses.
He promised to change the landscape of Kano from a consumer to a productive state and stop depending on finished goods.
“In the next four years of my government, education will receive a serious boost, with government schools being revived to allow everyone to take their children to government schools.”
“Where are we now, and where are we supposed to be, to ensure that from zero position to point 100, to create a social welfare net for widows, and those roaming about will be taken to school, to create special units for vocational training.”
