The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State, Michael Bush, has promised to build 1,000 low-cost housing units in each of the state’s 31 local government areas if elected in 2027.

Bush, who unveiled an eight-point development agenda for the state, also promised to establish education, job and relaxation centres for elderly people across the state.

The LP candidate told newsmen on Friday in Uyo that his proposed administration would be people-centred and focused on serving residents irrespective of their background, age or physical ability.

He said, “My administration will be people-centred with focus on serving all categories of persons irrespective of background, age and physical ability.

“We will build low-cost 1,000 housing units in every LGA across Akwa Ibom State. Shelter is a right, not a privilege.”

Bush said his eight-point agenda would focus on housing for all, care for elderly persons, continuation of projects inherited from previous administrations, instant payment of pension and gratuity, security, power and inclusive governance.

He added that the proposed centres for senior citizens would engage them productively while restoring dignity to retirees.

The LP flagbearer also promised to complete all ongoing projects initiated by previous governments to avoid the wastage of public funds.

He said the development blueprint would be known by the acronym AKWA IBOM, representing Access, Knowledge, Wealth, Advancement, Industrialisation, Business, Opportunities and Manpower.

The candidate promised that retiring civil servants would receive their pension and gratuity on their exact day of retirement.

He said his administration would protect residents from excessive taxation and subsidise key sectors of the economy to cushion the effects of economic hardship.

On security, Bush said village heads, traditional rulers and youth leaders would be actively engaged to tackle insecurity, particularly in rural communities.
