The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, CONYL, has commended the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye, for his “transformative leadership” and noticeable improvements in electricity supply across the Federal Capital Territory.
The Coalition made the commendation in a statement jointly signed and forwarded to journalists in Abuja on Thursday by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Adeyemo Adewale; Secretary, Comrade Junaid Abubakar; and PRO, Comrade Iniobong Sampson.
They observed that the coalition was compelled to speak out following positive feedback from residents, businesses and stakeholders within the AEDC franchise area.
“For too long, Nigerians have yearned for leadership that translates responsibility into tangible results. The power sector has been synonymous with frustration and uncertainty. Against this backdrop, we consider the developments within Abuja’s electricity distribution zone worthy of public recognition,” the statement said.
CONYL described Okwuokenye’s approach since assuming office as a demonstration that “transformative administration is possible when competence is matched with commitment and discipline.”
The group noted that the AEDC boss has brought renewed direction and urgency to the company’s operations, including round-the-clock engagement with operational challenges and efforts to improve service delivery across the network.
“Electricity is not a luxury. It is an indispensable pillar of modern economic civilisation. Every improvement in supply translates into more productive businesses, stronger livelihoods and enhanced quality of life,” the group said.
It added that under Okwuokenye’s leadership, Abuja’s electricity distribution landscape has witnessed encouraging improvements that have strengthened confidence among residents, entrepreneurs and investors.
CONYL also linked the AEDC leadership style to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, saying it reflects the need to build institutions capable of delivering measurable improvements in citizens’ lives.
“We make this statement not as an exercise in sycophancy, but as an expression of principled civic recognition. Where leadership succeeds, society must have the courage to say so,” Ibem said, quoting the group’s tagline: _“He came, he saw, and he conquered.”_
The coalition called on AEDC management and staff to sustain the momentum, deepen stakeholder engagement and institutionalize the gains recorded. It also urged electricity consumers to reciprocate with responsible consumption, timely payment of bills and protection of infrastructure.
“The transformation of Nigeria’s power sector cannot be the responsibility of one individual. It requires a collective national compact involving government, Discos, regulators, workers, communities and consumers,” CONYL said.
In conclusion, the group urged Engr. Okwuokenye to “keep serving, keep reforming, keep delivering,” stressing that “Abuja is grateful, businesses are hopeful, residents are encouraged, and Nigerian youths are watching.”
