The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged supporters of the party and members of the coalition movement not to be discouraged by a recent court ruling in Lokoja, Kogi State, which reportedly questioned the legal status of the party.
In a statement issued on Friday by the spokesman of Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Idris Zekeri Jnr, Obi assured supporters that the party’s legal team was already reviewing the judgment and would take immediate corrective and appellate actions.
According to the statement, the NDC remains committed to its mission of providing Nigerians with a credible alternative political platform despite what it described as a “bizarre ruling” by the Lokoja High Court.
“We have received the news of today’s bizarre ruling from the court in Lokoja regarding the legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
“While our legal teams are thoroughly reviewing the judgment to initiate immediate corrective and appellate measures, our Principal urges all our supporters, coalition partners, and patriots nationwide to remain absolutely calm and focused,” the statement said.
The POMR spokesman noted that the movement anticipated challenges in its quest to challenge the existing political order, stressing that the ruling represented only a temporary setback.
“We always knew that the journey to dismantle a deeply entrenched and grossly underperforming political status quo would be met with fierce institutional resistance and unexpected legal detours. Today’s ruling is a hurdle, not a stop sign,” the statement added.
Obi further reassured supporters that the coalition’s determination to build a transparent, legitimate and formidable political alternative remained intact, insisting that all legal rights available to the party would be vigorously pursued.
“Do not be discouraged; the vehicle may face a temporary breakdown, but our destination remains non-negotiable,” the statement concluded.
