Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has warned Chairmen of the 13 Local Governments in the state to ensure total victory for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election or be removed from office.

Nwifuru gave the warning in Abakaliki, the capital city, on Tuesday while administering the oath of office on newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen.

New Telegraph recalls that the newly sworn-in Chairmen were elected on August 22nd 2026, during the council election conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC).

The governor said, “Having been elected by the party to deliver candidates of our party, your prayer is to win all the position to APC in the general election.

“We will remove any local government chairman that does not win his local government; don’t allow anybody to come to your council and mess you up.”

The Governor congratulated them for their victory at the poll where the APC won all the 13 chairmanship seats and 171 wards in the state.

According to him, “Let me start by congratulating the newly sworn -in chairmen; this is a big responsibility you have taken this afternoon.”

Speaking against the backdrop of the activities of opposition parties in the state, Nwifuru denied insinuations that government was threatening opposition parties in the state.

“Nobody is threatening you; we are politicians, we must deliver our party. I pity those who are informants of our activities; we are not operating in secret.”

In an acceptance speech on behalf of the newly sworn-in helmsmen, the Chairman of Afikpo Local Government, Timothy Nwachi A.U, assured that the Chairmen will discharge their responsibilities to the best of their abilities.

The event was witnessed by the Minister of Works, David Umahi; the wife of the governor, Maudline Nwifuru; Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Obila; former Governor Martin Elechi; Speaker of the State House of Assembly Moses Odunwa; members of the state Executive Council, stakeholders and leaders of thought, among others.

In a related development, the Governor also disclosed that he will soon appoint 1,710 Executive Assistants to boost governance in the state.
