Nigeria’s 11 electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) recorded total energy billing of N250.79 billion in July 2026, representing 75.10 per cent of the N333.94 billion worth of electricity received during the month.

This was contained in the July 2026 Commercial Performance Factsheet released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which provides an assessment of the billing, revenue collection and recovery performance of the DisCos.

According to the report, the N250.79 billion billed by the DisCos translated to a billing efficiency of 75.10 per cent, representing a decline of 1.14 percentage points compared with the previous month.

The DisCos received a combined N333.94 billion worth of energy during the month, while the value of energy billed stood at N250.79 billion.

The report showed that the DisCos generated total billings of N250.79 billion in July, out of which N205.53 billion was successfully collected.

This represented a collection efficiency of 81.95 per cent, an improvement of 2.25 percentage points compared with June 2026.

The collection performance indicates that the DisCos recovered more than four-fifths of the value of electricity billed to customers during the month.

Eko DisCo recorded the highest collection efficiency at 101.78 per cent, representing a 13.14 percentage-point improvement from the previous month.

Yola DisCo followed with a collection efficiency of 88.92 per cent, up 20.34 percentage points, while Benin recorded 89.00 per cent despite a 5.01 percentage-point decline.

Ikeja recorded 87.85 per cent, Ibadan 85.97 per cent and Port Harcourt 84.69 per cent.

Abuja recorded 81.03 per cent, while Enugu posted 76.63 per cent.

The lowest collection efficiencies were recorded by Kano at 52.79 per cent, Jos at 52.70 per cent and Kaduna at 49.95 per cent.

NERC reported an overall revenue recovery efficiency of 74.91 per cent for the industry in July, an improvement of 0.67 percentage points compared with June.

The recovery efficiency was calculated against the allowed average tariff of N130.15 per kilowatt-hour and an actual average collection of N97.50 per kilowatt-hour.

Eko DisCo recorded the highest recovery efficiency during the month at 94.67 per cent, followed by Port Harcourt with 84.95 per cent and Benin with 79.15 per cent.

Yola recorded 78.24 per cent, while Abuja and Ikeja posted 76.72 per cent and 76.60 per cent respectively.

Ibadan recorded a recovery efficiency of 74.59 per cent, while Enugu stood at 71.58 per cent.

Kano recorded 55.41 per cent, while Jos and Kaduna posted 46.27 per cent and 39.71 per cent respectively.

The NERC factsheet classifies recovery performance below 50 per cent as red, between 50 and below 80 per cent as amber, and 80 per cent and above as green.

On the billing side, Kano recorded the highest billing efficiency at 85.37 per cent, followed by Port Harcourt at 82.34 per cent and Eko at 78.63 per cent.

Kaduna recorded the lowest billing efficiency at 64.08 per cent, followed by Yola at 61.55 per cent.

The July figures highlight differences in the commercial performance of the various DisCos, particularly in their ability to convert electricity supplied into billed energy and subsequently recover the associated revenue.
