  • PublishedOctober 5, 2026

Rangers International striker, Godwin Obaje, has exclusively informed Completesports.com that his next target is to win the prestigious CAF Champions League title with the Flying Antelopes before calling time on his career.

Obaje has entered the record books after hitting 101 NPFL goals and was widely celebrated by the nine-time Nigerian champions during the 2026/2027 Euromatch–NPFL Matchday 7 game between Rangers and Abia Warriors at the Awka City Stadium, Awka, Anambra State.

Obaje scored his 100th NPFL goal in the club’s 1-0 away win against Warri Wolves in a rescheduled Matchday 2 fixture in Ozoro, Delta State.

Obaje Reflects On Rangers’ Recognition

“I’m happy that my team, Rangers, recognised my contributions to the club by presenting me with the plaque,” Obaje began when Completesports.com called him on Monday afternoon.

“But I’m not surprised because I know that Rangers is a traditional team in the country, a team with good structure and fantastic management, headed by Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, who is well versed in football management and player motivation,” Obaje added.

He continued: “At that moment, I became too emotional. The atmosphere was like one was in Europe, with fans chanting and shouting.

“I can only say one is motivated to do more because it is said that reward for hard work is more work.”

Obaje’s 37th-minute goal in the game against his former club, Abia Warriors, turned out to be his 101st NPFL career goal.

Obaje’s Journey Across Nigeria And Abroad

Thirty-year-old Obaje has had domestic career spells with Wikki Tourists (2014/2015 and 2016/2017), defunct FC Ifeanyi Ubah (2017/2018), Plateau United (2019), Abia Warriors (2020/2022) and Rangers (2023/2024 to date).

However, he has intermittently punctuated his domestic career with brief spells abroad, following moves to AS Trenčín of Slovakia in 2015, Jeunesse Sportive Kairouanaise of Tunisia in 2019–2020, Sidama Coffee Sport Club of Ethiopia in 2022 and Sidama Coffee Sport Club of Oman in 2024.

Asked about his staying power in the game, Obaje said dedication, commitment, hard work and prayers had seen him through his career.

“I must say remaining prayerful, working hard, focus, commitment to my job and dedication have been my strength so far,” he responded.

Two NPFL Titles And Counting

Obaje has won two NPFL titles, both with Rangers, in 2023/2024 and 2025/2026.

Asked when he plans to call time on his career, Obaje said it had not crossed his mind, emphasising that his target for now is to win the CAF Champions League title with Rangers.

“That’s my target for now,” he said, adding: “But let’s reach the group stage first. From there, we see what God can do for us next.”
