FG’s Emphasis On Domestic Gas Utilisation, Infrastructure Expansion’ll Advance Nigeria – Aziko

Chairman of Aziko Energy Holdings Limited, Engr Alex Ogedegbe, said the federal government has consistently emphasised the importance of expanding domestic gas utilisation and infrastructure, adding that this will advance Nigeria.
He noted that the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) was established as an important instrument for supporting the development of critical midstream and downstream gas infrastructure, and that the project is a practical demonstration of what such collaboration can achieve.
He spoke on Tuesday in Lagos during the completion ceremony of the first phase of Asiko’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and propane terminal.
He stated that the company not only celebrated the opening of the terminal but that it has opened another chapter in Nigeria’s story.
He said it is a chapter defined by partnership, investment, infrastructure and ultimately a chapter defined by the conviction that Nigeria’s abundant resources can and should translate into tangible value for Nigerians.
He said: “The Asiko Energy LPG and Propane Terminal is therefore more than an Asiko project. It is part of a broader national effort to strengthen the infrastructure required to move gas from opportunity to impact.
“The terminal has been developed with a clear objective to provide reliable, safe and efficient infrastructure for the storage and distribution of LPG and propane, while contributing to greater energy access for households, businesses and industries.
The project, located here in Ijora, Lagos, is designed as a fully mounded facility, reflecting our commitment to safety, operational integrity and international standards.
Publicly reported project information places the LPG and propane capacity at approximately 5,000 metric tonnes.”
Coordinating Director of the Decade of Gas Secretariat, Ed Ubong, said the completion of the terminal showed that Decade of Gas was firmly on track, adding that the Asiko Energy project is one of the top 60 projects in the Gas Utilisation database. during the
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), Engr. Adeleye (Leye) Falade, said the project showed the growth Nigeria is experiencing in the oil and gas sector.
The Managing Director, Aziko Energy Holdings Limited, Mr Felix Ekundayo, lauded the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr Ekperikpo Ekpo and the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) for their support to the realisation of the project.
He stated that the facility was conceived as an integrated gas terminal capable of supporting the throughput, storage, and distribution of LPG, Propane and, ultimately, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
He added that strategically located in Ijora, Lagos, the facility is designed to strengthen the connection between Nigeria’s coastal supply infrastructure and inland storage and distribution networks.
Ekundayo said: “Today was a ceremony to mark the completion of this laudable project.
“It allows us to receive gas from LNG and other Nigerian producers of gas, bring that gas that was previously isolated on islands and exported, and now bring it into the market and distribute it.
“We already have a distribution chain hinterland, and that distribution chain will now be fed with our own infrastructure. We are proud to have achieved this, and we are looking very much to the next phase, where we will be able to bring the last LNG into the country.
“Although located inland, the Asiko Energy LPG and Propane terminal is coastal because it is effectively connected to the coast through a dedicated underground 1.7km pipeline system that extends to three jetty connection points at the Apapa Port.
“The completion of this first phase is only part of Asiko’s much larger vision to enhance its gas distribution infrastructure with the 32,750 cubic metre fully contained LNG terminal development scheduled to commence in 2027.”
