The Ondo State Police Command has announced a full restriction of vehicular and waterway movement within the Ondo South Senatorial District on Saturday, June 20, 2026, ahead of the scheduled by-election.
According to a press statement issued by the Command, movement will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. across all communities in the senatorial district as part of enhanced security measures for the conduct of the election organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The restriction, the police said, is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process while safeguarding lives and property during the exercise.

The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, confirmed that adequate security operatives have been deployed across polling units, collation centres, INEC offices, and other strategic locations within the district.
He added that only accredited persons, including INEC officials, accredited journalists, election observers, and emergency responders, will be allowed movement during the restriction period.
The Command also warned that any unauthorized movement of vehicles or boats, as well as acts capable of disrupting the election, will not be tolerated. Security agencies have been directed to enforce the restriction strictly and professionally.
Political actors and supporters were further cautioned against violence, vote buying, intimidation, thuggery, or any form of electoral malpractice, with the police stressing that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Command said it has intensified intelligence gathering, patrols, and inter-agency collaboration to ensure maximum security before, during, and after the election.
The statement also acknowledged the support of the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the guidance of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in strengthening security arrangements for the election.
The police assured residents of their commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring a safe electoral environment throughout the Ondo South senatorial by-election.
